On Wednesday, after several days of negotiation, I helped pass a bill with broad bipartisan support to stabilize our credit markets and preserve the way we do business.

This bill:

* Provides Tax Relief for American Families, Businesses, and Renewable Energy: Includes the extension of expiring tax provisions that will have a real impact on families and small businesses, including relief from the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) that will prevent 135,000 Kentucky families from being hit with a tax increase.

* Eases the Credit Crisis: Provides up to $700 billion in three phases for the Treasury to purchase distressed assets – mostly mortgage backed securities.

* Strengthens the FDIC: In order to protect bank customers, Congress will allow the FDIC to insure deposits up to $250,000 for one year (up from the current $100,000).

You are cordially invited to come by the Scott County Republican Party headquarters on Saturday, October 4th to meet United States Senator Mitch McConnell and his wife, United States Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao. Senator McConnell, Kentucky's longest-serving Republican Senator and current Senate Minority Leader, will be visiting with Scott Countians prior to participating in the Grand Parade of the Festival of the Horse. Additionally, Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao, the longest serving member of President Bush's cabinet, will be accompanying him.

The meet and greet will begin at 4:30 pm, with Senator McConnell and Scott County's own State Senator Damon Thayer expected to arrive approximately 4:45 pm.

This is a great chance to come meet not only leaders in Kentucky politics, but arguably the most influential couple in the nation! To have either of them in Georgetown is an honor, both at the same time is wonderful! Please feel free to bring you friends and family to meet Senator McConnell and Secretary Chao before cheering them on during the Grand Parade of the Festival of the Horse.
