Frequently Asked Questions

Is there any real difference between Republicans and Democrats?

Yes, there is.  In the late 1970's, Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, a Democrat, stated, "of a sudden, the GOP has become a party of ideas."  That was true then and it is still true today.  The Republican Party is where honest political debate can take place by those who want to see our government succeed.  We do not tolerate such tactics as fear-mongering, political pandering or playing up to outdated stereotypes.

Rather, the Republican Party is a vehicle used to achieve a government that is more responsible and responsive to those from whom it derives its authority . . . the voters.  We support increased fiscal responsibility, economic independence and the protection of traditional social values.

Shouldn't I register as a Democrat, since most decisions are made in their primaries?

No.  While this philosophy may have had some merit in decades past, it simply is not true any more.  Kentucky in general, and Scott County specifically, now truly has a two-party system.  Republicans are frequently elected to positions on the national, state and local levels.  And Republican primaries are now being held on each of those levels.  The time has come where Scott Countians can truly register with the party that they feel best represents their views and still have a say in both the primary and general elections.

Does my vote really matter?

In a word, YES!  History is full of accounts where one vote made the difference and the victor went on to majorly affect history.  However, specific examples can be given here locally.  In May of 2006, the Republican primary for constable ended up in a tie.  One additional vote would have clearly made the difference there.  Later that November, the Georgetown Mayor's race was decided by less than 100 votes.  Just a handful of votes can dramatically alter the course a community takes over a period of time.

Why should I get involved with the Scott County Republican Party?

British statesman and conservative philosopher Edmund Burke once said, "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."  Good government doesn't happen without many men and women working to ensure that the right candidates are elected.  We need you to join with us and make that effort a bit easier.

Do you do more than just campaign?

Yes.  While electing conservative candidates is our primary goal, we make sure to have fun as well.  We have an annual picnic, regular breakfasts with guest speakers and are always open to new ideas to make our local party more appealing to people.
