Senator McConnell Making Stops Around the State
Senator McConnell is enjoying spending August traveling across Kentucky and meeting with voters. Last week he visited Morehead (Rowan County) and spoke to the Chamber of Commerce. The Morehead News has an excellent write up:
…McConnell hit on some key issues for this year’s election. Those topics included the high gas prices and healthcare. He shared his plan for resolving the gas issue.
“The solution is to find more oil and use less. A reason for the high gas prices is there is high demand for oil,” he said. This caused the price per barrel to go up. Our plan will cut oil imports in half. We will be going from drilling 12 million to 6 million barrels a day…”

Media Bias and Bruce Lunsford’s Campaign
Ever read the editorial pages of the state’s two largest newspapers, the Courier-Journal and Herald Leader, and wonder exactly how often they attack Senator McConnell? We did, and don’t let anyone tell you that Republican complaints about the media are overblown.
Since Senator McConnell became Senate Republican Leader (Jan. ’07), the Courier-Journal has published 109 negative mentions, and the Herald Leader has published 51 negative mentions.
That’s a combined 160 negative attacks leveled on the editorial pages of the state’s two largest newspapers in 19 and a half months. That’s just over eight per month, or about two per week.
Why is this important? Two of Bruce Lunsford’s recent television commercials have essentially been 30-second television versions of negative editorials published by the CJ and HL. It’s the easiest money Lunsford’s media consultants ever made – they just wait for one of the two weekly negative mentions, print the words on the screen, throw in some ominous music and presto! Another misleading negative television ad is ready to go.
It’s almost like Lunsford’s media campaign is being run by the editorial boards at the CJ and HL, which is, we are sure, exactly how Lunsford would make decisions as a U.S. Senator – open up the editorial pages of the CJ, HL, New York Times, Washington Post, check their views, and go vote the pro-tax agenda.
Bowling Green Daily News Hits the Nail on the Head
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves:
The United States is in the midst of an energy crisis - one of the worst since the 1970s - and the American people have spoken loud and clear that Congress should address the issue. Unfortunately the members adjourned for the summer without passing any legislation that could seriously address those concerns. This is really sad, but it is politics as usual in Washington, D.C.
There is speculation that the Democratic leadership doesn’t want a broad energy bill prior to the election in order not to embarrass presidential hopeful Barack Obama…
