McConnell Wins Debate
Posted: Monday, September 15, 2008
Dear Team Mitch Supporter:
Senator McConnell has completed a "Lincoln-Douglas" style debate with Bruce Lunsford hosted by the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce. A couple of things became clear early in this debate: Bruce Lunsford doesn't have a basic, working knowledge of current events and foreign affairs, and he either cannot grasp or doesn't agree that it's good for a state like Kentucky to have Mitch McConnell’s clout and influence in the U.S. Senate.
We thought you might be interested in what some reporters are saying in the aftermath…
The Lexington Herald-Leader: McConnell "put Lunsford on his heals on foreign affairs and how he would have voted on key legislation."

The Courier-Journal notes Lunsford’s inability to answer questions on foreign policy: "McConnell said Lunsford wasn’t directly answering his questions, and when Lunsford gave a similar answer to a question on how he would deal with the threat posed by Iran, McConnell said it was 'pretty obvious that Bruce doesn't have an average newspaper knowledge of this issue.'"

The Lexington Herald-Leader: "Lunsford repeatedly sidestepped McConnell's questions about the United States' approach to the continuing conflict between Russia and Georgia, as well as handling the remaining 'rogue states' with nuclear capabilities, Iran and North Korea. McConnell then moved to brand Lunsford as unprepared."

CNHI News Service: "…[Lunsford] had trouble answering questions on foreign policy issues and entitlement programs posed by McConnell…"

PolitickerKY.com: "'Kentucky has an enormous investment in the seniority and clout that I have accumulated over the years,' McConnell said. 'To throw that away and put a freshman in there who is only a couple of years younger than I am - who won't be there long enough to have any particular impact - would be a dramatic loss of clout and influence in the Commonwealth.'"

Kypost.com: "Senator McConnell drew form his experience of 24 years in the Senate as well as his role as Senate Minority Leader, highlighting the over $500 million in federal earmarks he has brought to the Commonwealth."
With 50 days until the election, it is clear that Bruce Lunsford is not prepared to be a United States Senator.
In contrast, Senator Mitch McConnell is delivering real results for Kentucky. We need his continued leadership during these complex times.
