Third Postcard from the Republican National Convention

Posted: Tuesday, September 2, 2008

Hello fellow Scott County Republicans,

It's been a full and exciting day at the 2008 GOP Convention in St. Paul. We were treated to wonderful speeches from our Kentucky leadership and our national leadership as we begin our push to make John McCain our next president!

Our delegate attended a luncheon featuring Sen. Mitch McConnell, Sen. Jim Bunning, Senate President David Williams and the most famous distant relative of Daniel Boone, Mr. Pat Boone.

Hearing Sen. McConnell speak today only reinforced my opinion that after the presidential race, sending Sen. McConnell back to Washington ranks in the same column with getting John McCain to the White House. Sen. McConnell has been a key leader for our great Commonwealth, and losing that leadership would have a great impact on Kentucky.

Tonight's session was about getting back on message, which focused on putting country and service first. One speech was from a gentleman named Wes Gullett, who discussed how Cindy McCain was instrumental in helping him adopt his two daughters, Nikki and Bridget. The message delivered by Gullett and others served to reinforce that John and Cindy McCain are truly compassionate and caring about our country and our people, and reinforced McCain's spirit of duty, honor, country.

The evening ended with perhaps two of the greatest speeches I've heard in my lifetime. Former U.S. Senator Fred Thompson and Independent Democrat Senator Joe Lieberman provided an accurate picture of how John McCain has built his reputation as a man of integrity and principal, never afraid to go against his party.

Sen. Lieberman's appeal at the end of his speech also served to put Independents and Democrats upset with the liberal direction their party is taking that John McCain is the person in this campaign who has built his career always striving for change that will make our nation great and always put country first!

Wednesday is a big day on two fronts for our delegation. First many of us are joining with fellow delegates from West Virginia, Virginia and Maryland to put together care packages for victims of Hurricane Gustav. Then tomorrow night comes probably the most important speech of Gov. Sarah Palin's life as she introduces herself to a large majority of America. I personally predict she'll hit a home run!

Good night from Minneapolis!

Sincerely,

Michael Goins
